Letter from IAPSEC president regarding membership for the 2011-2012 year
Dear Members and Friend
Above is a link to an application for IAPSEC membership. The 2011-2012 school year is upon us. I’m sure you are busy at the start of the
new school year, but please take a moment now to renew your membership for the 2011-2012 school year. As you will notice, we have
increased the fee structure for programs with larger budgets. We have added two tiers to the rate structure. The first is that if your
program budget is between four million dollars ($4,000,000) and eight million dollars ($8,000,000) your dues will be four thousand five
hundred dollars, ($4,500), If your programs budget is over eight million dollars, ($8,000,000) your dues will be five thousand five hundred
dollars, ($5,500). There is no change for programs whose annual budget is less than four million dollars ($4,000,000).
The calculation of your programs annual budget should only include those portions your budget that serve students with rates set by the
Purchase Care Review Board. Many organizations are multi-faceted. For example, if your organization provides day care services, those
portions of the budget should not be included in your calculation of your budget for IAPSAC purposes. If you have any questions please
contact myself or other board members for clarification.
The question on your mind at this minute may be “What will I get in return for my dues?” The answer is membership in the primary
association to advocate for the educational needs of seriously disabled students. IAPSEC is dedicated to assuring that a high standard of
special education, care and treatment are available to all children in the State of Illinois.
We meet monthly and cover a wide range of topics related to private special education. Nearly every month we also present a focused
training session on a topic requested by the membership. The opportunities for networking are just as important for many of us as the
official meeting content. With the hard work of our membership and our excellent governmental affairs consultant (Bridget Helmholz) we
have achieved very positive outcomes for our sector. In the past year alone, we have defeated a proposed change in funding that
threatened our existence. We have also built strong alliances with policy makers to insure that rules and regulations work for the children
we serve.
From my school’s standpoint, $3,000 is a very small price to pay in comparison to the changes that would have happened were it not for
IAPSEC. It also represents great value in terms of our desire to be a strong, active voice in advocating for collaboration, partnerships and
meeting the needs of the children we serve.
In all of the efforts just mentioned, Bridget Helmholz has been instrumental in obtaining accurate information and helping to articulate
strategies for resolving the problems. .
So please renew your dues as soon as possible. I hope to see you all at the next meeting on September 20th in Tinley Park.
